A few weeks ago I got talking to a young lady who is an aerial acrobat, by this I mean she literally does acrobatics on silks, hoops and also trapeze (I believe.) My first thought was, what a interesting shoot that would be. We tried to find somewhere indoors that we could use to shoot something like this however due to the costs were finding it difficult, so I was loosing hope that I would get the opportunity.
It was at this point that Siobhan said why don’t we do it outside somewhere. I didn’t even think it was possible but she assured me it could be done, so we set something up. We met at a location that she had suggested where there was some trees ideally suited. She turned up with her incredibly patient partner who was there to help set the silks up.
After walking a short distance to the location we found a suitable tree and they were up it like monkeys to secure the harnesses to hang the silks from. After a quick hair and makeup moment with Roxie, Siobhan was ready to shoot. We asked her to show us what she could do so I had some idea of what kind of poses we could get. It became apparent that she is very talented not to mention Ridiculously strong. Hanging herself upside down to twist the silks in a certain way she was sat in a cradle made from the silks.
We shot in several poses and she made it look rather effortless, which is impressive as i clearly requires a great deal of strength. After shooting for around 40 minutes we were finished, which I am certain She was pleased with as I had asked her to repeat stunts several times and was clearly feeling the burn from the workout (sorry Siobhan)
Here are some of my favourite shots from the shoot:
